APEL INTERNATIONAL
It is well known that Belize is the melting pot of races, recognized as a country full of diversity and booming with it's colorful traditions and finger lickin gastronomy. However, a lot of what our ancestors thought us has been lost. Cultural practices are dying and dissapearing losing their authenticity at an alarming rate. To conquer this I have created the following idea: APEL International (Academy of Extended Learning) will serve as home to preserve and proliferate culture and language exposing the beauty of them to the world and opening international exchange opportunities where our students can travel to partner language centers to share their knowledge and at the same time bring home some of the culture they have learned. In a full immersion method, APEL will focus on children and teens creating employment and recreational opportunities. APEL International will focus on the following languages: Garifuna, Mopan Maya, Kekchi Maya and Yucatec Maya.

- I want to adress the educational aspect of my idea even though it will provide a variety of opportunities as well.Our nation is spiraling out of control and it is my dream to reach out to all our youths and offer them a place at APEL where they can chose a program of interest, for example Garifuna program which will not just teach them the language, they will also be exposed to the religion where they can chose to join and participate in religious ceremonies, traditions and beliefs such as healing methods and artesian treatments. We don't want to have them confined to four walls, we want to take them to the actual communities so they can participate and learn in the way of life, meet the elders of the community and learn how to elaborate goods and materials which can then be sold in the tourism industry and be exported to our neighbouring countries where we have established links for this in the market. Apart from being able to generate some income through this and keep them off the streets we also offer the option to study in a specialized course after graduation and become teachers in the new language where they can chose to work within the company, on their own or travel to one of our associates in another country (we have also established links with language centers in the region to organize student and teacher exchange programs).

- APEL International has licensed teachers who have worked for years with the education sector in Belize who have joined our cause and are interested in becoming a part of our team once it is implemented. We plan to start our project off in Belize city and then branch out into the different districts so we will reach all communities. APEL International has a website which will serve as a platform to facilitate the sharing of information for online students not just in Belize but wherever students may find themselves The benefits our students will receive from this are recreational opportunities, travel opportunities but most importantly the wealth of knowledge that is to be gained from each culture, providing a new point of view, a greater sense of responsibility, respect and understanding for the differences that exist between the different cultures or races.

- The strategy to generate revenue is to sell our program to international students who can learn through our platform with our local teachers, we will also offer these languages to children whose parents will pay a small fee enough to generate profits as well as adults and the general public. Our youths at risk will benefit from a separate sector of our company which will grant a scholarship to those students who fall under the criteria outlined by this sector.
